Come spend some time at the Ocoee Whitewater Center - just 30 minutes from Murphy, NC

Just over the Tennessee state line and about 30 minutes from Murphy, NC is the Ocoee Whitewater Center - a great place to spend the day for an outing.

The Ocoee Whitewater Center (OWC) site was constructed for the purpose of holding the 1996 Olympic Canoe and Kayak Slalom competitions. This was the first time these events were held on a natural river and it was appropriate the Ocoee should be chosen as the site as it was already one of the most popular whitewater rivers in the world. Constructed using 60,000 tons of native rock, individually placed and cemented into position along the banks of the river, the riverbed itself was narrowed to create the spectacular rapids necessary for the competition. Those same rapids are the draw for the thousands of people who come each year to raft or to test their kayaking skills on the Olympic course.

Since the Olympic events, the Ocoee Whitewater Center has evolved into a highly visible and much used venue. They have mountain biking trails, hiking trails, picnic areas, suspension bridge that spans the river, gorgeous gift shop and restaurant. The paved walkways along the river are perfect for watching the rafters, walking your dog or leisurely family walks. When the river is turned off there’s great swimming holes and places to fish. It’s one of our favorite places to drive down to and walk along the river watching the rafters and kayakers go by on the weekends too.

Amazing Stick Art Maze at The Bascom...

Murphy, NC - Things to Do and See

While on our daytrip from Murphy, NC to neighboring Highlands, NC to see Dry Falls, we also stopped in The Bascom – A Center for the Visual Arts. As we entered through the covered bridge entrance we were greeted by this wonderful organic stick art maze created by sculptor Patrick Dougherty.

Come visit the King Kong Zoo in Murphy, NC!

Things to do in Murphy, NCYou won’t believe how much this small town zoo in Murphy, NC has to offer. We were recently at the King Kong Zoo for a birthday party for our niece and got to spend a little time talking with Owner/Operator, John Curtis. Curtis cares for 60 animals that live at the King Kong Zoological Park located at the intersection of Hwy 64 and US 19/129 next to the flea markets. Caring for the animals is second nature to Curtis as he grew up in the zoo industry. Together he and his father, Stanley, have 110 years of combined experience working with exotic animals. One of our favorite animals was the Zeedonk, a donkey-zebra hybrid, that John had to teach how to run from rain. Our favorite cat was the white tiger that playfully turned into a little kitten when John walked next to his cage. They also fed the pigmy goats, played video games and had pizza and cake!

Is Your Pet Sabotaging You from Selling Your Home?

Is Your Pet Sabotaging You from Selling Your Home? It’s just not realistic to think you can relocate your precious pets while you’re home is on the market, but here are some tips to stop sabotaging your showings. As you leave the house everyday or get ready for that showing appointment follow these tips…

Mountain Living Team - Murphy, NC

Keep cat litter boxes and puppy pads impeccably clean and out of sight

Keep all pet toys, kitty condos and feeding bowls picked up and put away

Make sure carpets and floors are cleaned of any stains

Mist the carpets and fabrics with Febreze, it freshens the air with a perfume smell. Air freshener sprays can affect people with allergies and just smell like you’re covering up something.

Put your pet in their carrier out in the garage or in an out of the way corner of a room. Better yet, load them up for a trip to the park.

Some people just aren’t pet lovers and others are fearful or distracted by animals. Doing these quick and easy steps could be the difference in having a great showing and getting an offer!
